tradition more like a ritual in my family is waking up super early on Christmas day, opening presents and turning on the tv and watching Christmas movies all day. Growing up there have been those kids movies that still have a place in my heart and I’ve added new movies to my collection over the years. Here is a combination of children and adult movies that everyone can watch during this holiday season.
Home Alone- A boy is forgotten by his family on their Christmas vacation and is forced to stay home. While he is home alone, two men try and break in. While uses household items, he is able to outsmart the two buglers.
Elf- A man finds out he is adopted by his father who is an elf and goes on a journey to New York to connect with his father who doesn`t know he existed.
Rudolph the red nose Reindeer- The film tells the story of the legend of what we know of the red nose reindeer.
Frosty the snowman- A discarded silk top hat becomes the focus of a struggle between a washed-up stage magician and a group of schoolchildren after it magically brings a snowman to life. Realizing that newly-living Frosty will melt in spring unless he takes refuge in a colder climate, Frosty and a young girl who he befriends stow away on a freight train headed for the north pole. Little do they know that the magician is following them, and he wants his hat back.
Santa Clause is coming to town- The film tells the story of how Santa Claus and several Claus-related Christmas traditions came to be.
Santa Clause- Divorced dad Scott has custody of his son on Christmas Eve. After he accidentally kills a man in a Santa suit, they are magically transported to the North Pole, where an elf explains that Scott must take Santa’s place before the next Christmas arrives. Scott thinks he’s dreaming, but over the next several months he gains weight and grows an inexplicably white beard. Maybe that night at the North Pole wasn’t a dream after all — and maybe Scott has a lot of work to do.
Christmas with the Kranks- The plot revolves around a couple who decide to skip Christmas one year since their daughter is away, much to the chagrin of their neighbors. However, their plans are changed when their daughter phones them to tell them that she’s coming home for Christmas
How the Grinch stole Christmas- the reclusive green Grinch decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who.
Christmas Carol- When an old man encounters three ghosts on Christmas eve, they relive his past, present and future in hopes that he will change his ways.
A Christmas Story- his beloved holiday movie follows the wintry exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker , who spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a “Red Ryder air rifle.” Frequently at odds with his cranky dad but comforted by his doting mother, Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses and his hopes intact.
Love Actually- Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connect us all: love. Among the characters explored are David, the handsome newly elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer Sarah, a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry, a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary.
Jack Frost-Jack Frost is the tale of a man who’s trying to be a father, a husband, a breadwinner, and he’s trying to do what he loves to do. Ultimately he realizes that if you don’t pay attention to the people dearest in your life — your family — you could lose it all. Jack, an often-traveling blues musician, has spent little time with his son- then dies in a car accident and then realizes his mortal life mistake of not being there for his son. Then Jack “came to life one day” as a snowman to repair his lost time.
National Lampoon Christmas Vacation- Griswold Family Christmas, and after months of careful planning he invites both of his parents, both of his wife, Ellen’s parents even his uncle Louis and his senile aunt Bethany. However, what Clark does not realize that his no-manner cousin-in-law Eddie was coming over in his new trailer. Clark even prepares his house for Christmas with over 20,000 lights and a tree that does not even fit in the living room. As Christmas eve comes, Clark will soon realize that a series of unfortunate events will start to unravel for him, as the Christmas Turkey would burst and have no meet, his aunt’s cat would chew on the lights and his uncle Louis will burn up his tree, and he will even soon discover that his boss have cut the Christmas bonus to give him a month in the jelly club, can Clark keep it together and understand the true meaning of Christmas?
Miracle on 34th street-In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain’s main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity.
Meet me in St.Louis- The film spotlights the sisters’ education in the ways of the world, which includes, but isn’t limited to, learning about life and love, courtesy of the prototypical boy next door. In the end, love conquers all
Polar Express- When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.
Jingle all the Way– Turbo Man action dolls are the Christmas craze, in the spirit of real life Tickle-Me-Almo. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad mug shamelessly through this holiday slapstick about two guilt-wracked fathers racing around Minneapolis on Christmas Eve trying to buy their sons a sold-out Turbo Man.
The Nutcracker– young Marie Stahlbaum’s favorite Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive and, after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, whisks her away to a magical kingdom populated by dolls.
The Family Man– Jack’s lavish, fast-paced lifestyle changes one Christmas night when he stumbles into a grocery store holdup and disarms the gunman. The next morning he wakes up in bed lying next to Kate, his college sweetheart he left in order to pursue his career, and to the horrifying discovery that his former life no longer exists. As he stumbles through this alternate suburban universe, Jack finds himself at a crossroad where he must choose between his high-power career and the woman he loves.
